What is Satori Stori?
This is a collaborative journal about learning through experiential creative enlightenment. Here we explore different creative outlets and the insights and wisdom gained by dissecting and exploring the experience itself.
Kensho vs. Satori
In the Buddhist tradition there are two types of awakenings, Kensho and Satori. Kensho is our typical Hero’s journey: tripping over your experience, learning through mistakes, gaining insights through pain and suffering. However, awakening through Satori marks a sudden and profoundly liberating experience that immediately shifts perception in the individual.
As Bruce Lee liked to describe Satori
Satori - in the awakening from a dream. Awakening and self-realization and seeing into one’s own being - these are synonymous
Experiencing Satori
Learning through Satori is about actively seeking out and encouraging those immediate moments of awareness through creative outlets. It’s about acknowledging and giving thanks to our human experience while actively giving ourselves permission to jump into the unknown, observe our experience, and share the unexpected and often intangible details along the way.
What to expect from Satori Stori
Satori Stori is about sharing stories and gaining insight through experiential creativity. It’s less a discussion about the art created itself and more about the inspiration, discovery, and self reflection learned along the way.

Who is the curator?
Hello, I am Benjamin (he/him)
I have always been fascinated by unique and serendipitous experiences in life. This lead me to a career in User Experience Design where I assisted in creating user experiences for cutting edge technology such as NASA & Virgin Galactic Spacecraft, Jaguar & Land Rover infotainment systems, and the future of transportation at Virgin Hyperloop One.

However, what excited me the most in creating new experiences was watching and understanding how people felt and interacted with them rather than the experience itself. In watching and participating in hundreds of user tests I gained a desire to learn more about people and how their previous experiences adjust their current reactions.
This lead to my own creative and spiritual awakening that drove me to pick apart my own experiences and uncover how they shaped myself and my own awareness.
My preferred medium of creativity now is portrait photography, but more importantly the experience of using portrait photography as a means of emotional healing. To me there is something unique about capturing a slice of someone’s raw and authentic self to find beauty in who they are as an individual.
I’ve even used the process of self-portrait photography to give myself an opportunity to let my sometimes confusing and tumultuous emotional energy out, giving myself time to process, and eventually a doorway to gain new insights about myself.

My hope is to share my creative process and experience in a collaborative way with others to actively seek out, unpack, and cherish those moments of Satori.
Come along on the journey and share your own Satori Stori
